2011 (“We’re Back!”)

We took a break last year and didn’t put on a light show.  We know many of you were sad and missed the lights but were very understanding.  We really needed the break and for a while this year, I still wasn’t sure how I was feeling about 2011, until recently.  I’m excited to say We’re Back and we have some exciting plans for 2011.  It might be too hard or too costly to pull them all off, but we’ll see how things go throughout the year.  Here’s our current plans.

1. •Break 30,000 lights!
   

2. •Double the size of the mega tree
   

3. •Double the lights on the mega tree
   

4. •Convert many lights to LED
   

5. •New snow machine
   

6. •Bring back the fountains!
   

7. •Better promote the canned food
   collection
   

8. •Create web based “jukebox” interface
   

9. •Add another custom song / sequence
   

Here are our goals for this year:

1. 30,000+ Lights
   

2. 250+ Strings
   

3. 110+ Extension cords
   

4. Reduce power consumption via conversion to LED
   

5. 25 Songs
   

6. Collect canned food
   

Here’s the current status / final results:

1. 35,222 Lights!
   

2. 290 strings plus Star, Presents, Nativity, Snowman, Penguins, and Drums
   

3. 105 Extension cords plus 1000’ of SPT wire (making my own custom extension cords)
   

4. 89 Amps / 10,775 watts (if everything is on at once)
   

5. Lights up by > 9k but power down (LEDs are awesome!)
   

6. Costs about $7.00, in power, a week to run the show

8. 2 Inflatables
   

9. 1500 Free Candy Canes
   

10. Added web based “jukebox” feature!  You can now pick what song to play, just like a jukebox, with your smartphone!!! Just scan the QR code that you'll find posted on the garage door with your favorite QR code scanner app on you smartphone.
